Welcome to the Jungle: Ryan Psota

Oct 26, 2018 | posted by lizzy

one of the first artists who came to mind for the interior of our third Delaware location was fellow Philly-based friend, Ryan Psota. We've partnered with Ryan in the past, asking him to contribute a mural to our Front Street Walls, which he designed + painted in collaboration with in the Mural Arts Program. For our newest restaurant in Christiana, we gave Ryan two walls + asked him to make something bold + colorful. Needless to say, Ryan did not dissapoint.

community first: Brewed Awakenings

community + togetherness, with a side of some really, really good cold brew. That is the focus of Newark's small town coffee shop, Brewed Awakenings, and its owner, J.D. Willetts. Since purchasing the café in 2015, J.D.'s goal has been to create, maintain + expand a space where residents and students alike can gather, hang, talk things through and most of all — enjoy a cup of coffee, all without taking a cent for himself.

Rainbow on the record

Tucked away in a tiny Newark alley, just past a colorful mosaic bulletin board mural, lies Rainbow Records. The shop, owned by Todd + Miranda Brewer, has endured and evolved along with the small Delaware town over the years, without ever losing focus of its goals—to provide the community with easy access to quality music + books while supporting local art of all kinds. We had coffee with Todd at the neighboring Brewed Awakenings [editor's note: blog coming soon!] to discuss the Newark music scene + how the shop has maintained a constant presence for over three decades.

originally founded, owned + operated by Jim Tunis in 1994, Newark skate shop SWITCH has always been a staple of the area—a hub for skaters, snowboarders + bands to meet and interact with one another. Now under new ownership + at a prime Main St. location [editor's note: right next to our new Newark location!], the shop aims to expand their brand even further. We met with Co-Owner, Tyler Jacobson, to discuss the Newark skate, snow + music scene as well as how Newark itself has transformed over the years.
